Predicting Avengers: Infinity War
WARNING: While nothing listed below is factual in any sense, these predictions could end up being true if John Dwyer is a super sleuth and a telepath. Continue at your own risk.
If you've been living under a rock, you would just be realizing that one of the biggest films in the history of cinema is about to hit theaters. Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years of interconnected films, and according to all of the first reactions from around the media world: it holds up to the highest of hype meters. For us at The Open Theater, Infinity War represents a period of movie history reaching its end. With this film and Avengers 4, we're witnessing the end of an era for Marvel and it's absolutely a sad thought that it's coming to an end. But, while we could spend all of our time wallowing in sadness about what has come and gone, let's spend time over analyzing and predicting what we could end up see happening on screens across the world this weekend! The Open Theater has provided readers with five predictions for this film, some bold, others not so much. So, let's dive right into it!
1. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will not be seen together in Infinity War
For those of us who love the relationship between Cap and Iron Man, we realize that this is a bit of a gut punch as we've been waiting to see the relationship between these two come full circle. But, from what we have seen from TV spots, trailers, and all inclinations from the cast, we have made the judgment call that Tony and Steve are in completely different places throughout the entirety of the film. It appears that Tony meets the Guardians somewhere in space to attempt to stop Thanos before he reaches Earth. On the other side of things, Cap comes out of hiding with the rest of the Secret Avengers to help in the last stand at Wakanda. So for those of us wanting closure on the story that began in Civil War, we'll have to wait for Avengers 4.
2. Steve Rogers survives Infinity War
So, in order for Tony and Steve to have their reconnecting moment in Avengers 4, that has to mean that Cap will survive this film right? Many people seem to believe that Cap will meet his end in this film (rightfully so, he seems to be in rather dire straits). For us at The Open Theater though, we believe that this is all misdirection, for Infinity War at least. Chris Evans has publicly stated he is involved in the production of Avengers 4 and we are inclined to believe him. While we do see a world where Cap does end up dying, it won't be in this film. So, while Bucky or Sam is surely the future of the Captain America character, we're confident we won't see the return of a true Captain until Avengers 4 comes to a close.
3. Hawkeye will have less than 15 minutes of total screen time
For those of us you who happen to follow Marvel news in any effect, there's been a large amount of backlash over the fact that the fans' favorite archer appears to be missing from nearly all of the pre-release material. The Russo brothers have promised that Hawkeye will appear in the film and is undergoing a special mission, but they did not state just how much we will see him. Our next two predictions dive into specifics as to why we will see so little of Jeremy Renner in this film, but we do believe the tertiary story of Infinity War will revolve around his character. With a cameo appearance from Nick Fury, we believe Hawkeye's mission will involve a certain Captain who has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
4. Captain Marvel has possession of the Soul Stone and is trapped in the Quantum Realm
So after three predictions that are rather normal and sensible, this is the first theory that some people are going to say is absolutely bonkers. Having done quite a bit of research into Infinity War and some of the characters who will have films released between the two major ensemble films, we have a prediction to make. With Captain Marvel taking place in the 90s, we believe that film will deal with her interactions with the Skrull and ultimately end with Marvel being trapped in the Quantum Realm after taking possession of the Soul Stone (or perhaps that being the reason she is in the Quantum Realm). As you can most likely predict, this is where we see Hawkeye coming into play. With Nick Fury appearing in Captain Marvel, we believe Fury will task our favorite archer with finding a way to save Marvel and recover the Soul Stone before Thanos can get to her.
5. Thanos snaps his fingers and wipes out the Avengers as we know it
Through the lead up to Infinity War, we've heard about the all-encompassing snap. Supposedly when Thanos retrieves all of the Infinity Stones, he can rewrite reality with the snap of his finger. Our prediction is that Thanos will retrieve the Soul Stone by the end of the film, and the final scene of the true film is him snapping his fingers. With this, the Avengers are gone from the world and he creates what he considers to be "perfect balance." But, this is where our secret sixth prediction comes into play! Notice anything particularly strange about the films between Infinity War and 4? They all involve characters who can travel to the Quantum Realm. With Hawkeye's mission to seek out Captain Marvel, the only two people who can actually help him do that is Ant-Man and The Wasp! So our final prediction is that: Hawkeye succeeds in saving Captain Marvel from the Quantum Realm with the help of our shrinking duo, and as a result, manages to avoid the rewriting of reality. Resulting in the only heroes left to make things right: a man and woman who can shrink and grow to immense and atomic sizes, a spacewoman, and a man with a bow and arrow.
